We need to focus on safety in particular. There’s been enough products and ingredient bans in this industry to warrant extreme care before proceeding.
Unsafe ingredients found in skin lightening creams
In the US a toxic chemical substance Hydroquinone remains a major ingredient of skin bleaching creams. Hydroquinone has already been banned in the UK. Even though the FDA proposed a ban on it in 2006 because they couldn’t rule out the possibility that it is carcinogenic (causes cancer), Hydroquinone is still not illegal in the US.
Possible side effects include skin irritation, permanent damage to skin fibres and Ochronosis. The latter is a form of hyperpigmentation that can be permanent.
Despite obvious risks, dermatologists are happy enough to recommend it as a safe method of lightening skin. Everyone has to decide for themselves, but as we’ll see in a moment there is no need to run even a slight risk here.
Even worse things used in skin whitening creams are steroids and the very toxic mercury.
Whitening skin without risk
As usual, nature provides us with a safe solution. An extract from a herb that grows in India, commonly known as Extrapone Nutgrass Root, has proven extremely useful at lightening skin.
So, what will it be? The risk of chemicals, or going with what nature provides? I know what I would do. There’s no need to risk your health to lighten dark skin when safe and effective alternatives exist.
